This workshop is offered on a sliding-scale basis ($30 - $100).
Rooted in foundational physical theater techniques, this class is for students of all performance backgrounds who want to get out of their heads and into their bodies to generate material. This class blends a “cracking open” of the emotional actor, and impulse-driven play to reach a sense of creative freedom to bring into any performing context. Perfect for beginners, those who are clown-curious, or seasoned performers alike.
In a supportive environment, we will take bold risks to find and deconstruct our instincts on stage: what does the audience think of us? how do we tune in to our impulses? When something goes wrong, how do we recover?
Additionally, we will focus on:
Building trust with the audience to take them with you anywhere.
Foundational theatre technique to make more dynamic stage pictures, rhythms, and relationships.
Tuning in to and following your impulses.
What makes you, in particular, unique/special/funny on stage.
These skills will support performance work of all types: improv, clown, devised work, drag, movement, sketch, etc. Students will come out with a toolkit of skills and vocabulary of terms to apply to future work, as well as a better understanding of themselves and how they can play with/against themselves on stage.
Bring water, snacks, and wear clothes to move in!
PLEASE NOTE: The space we're working in is NOT ADA accessible, and only reached by stairs.
